4. Methods for Working with Couples & Families

EFT — Emotionally Focused Therapy

The gold standard of couples therapy. Works with the negative interaction cycle: helps partners see that behind anger and criticism lie fear, pain, and a need for closeness. Effectiveness confirmed by 30+ RCTs.

Systemic Family Therapy

Views the family as a system where changing one element affects everyone. Works with intergenerational patterns, rules, and roles in the family.

EMDR for Couples

When individual trauma of a partner underlies couple conflicts. EMDR reprocesses the traumatic material, after which the partner stops "reacting from the past" to the current situation.

CBT for Couples

Working with automatic thoughts and perception distortions in relationships: "he/she never listens to me," "I'm always to blame for everything."
